Bob Puers

Robert Puers is the pioneer in the research on micromachining, MEMS and packaging techniques in Flanders, mainly for biomedical implantable applications. He installed a MEMS clean room in 1984, that resulted in the formation of more than 40 Ph.D’s in the field of microsystems, capacitive sensors, low power smart interfaces, inductive power and wireless communication. He served as Editor-in-Chief for the IOP Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering for ten years, was general chair of the Eurosensors conferences between 2004 and 2010, and acted as the General Program Chairman for Transducers’07 in Lyon. At present he is the chairman of the Leuven NanoCenter, which merges multi-disciplinary hightech microfabrication research at KULeuven. He took major efforts to increase the impact of MEMS and Microsystems in both the international research community as well as in industry, and helped to launch three spin-off companies, ICSense, Zenso and MinDCet. Dr. Puers is also an IEEE and IoP fellow. He supervised/supervises 60 Ph.D. students.

Prof. Puers retired in 2018.
