SSCS Distinguished Lecture : Quantum Technology 2.0

Lectured by Prof. Peter Vetter (President of Bell Labs Core Research)

What

In this talk we will discuss our research in quantum technology and quantum computing. We first briefly introduce how quantum physics has enabled many breakthrough technologies, including the transistor, laser, and quantum dots at Bell Labs. These device applications leverage the quantization of energy levels and particle-wave duality of electrons or photons, which are mostly treated as an ensemble. We then explain the concept of quantum interaction between individual particles (so-called entanglement) and how that starts a new era of Quantum 2.0. We will discuss how quantum entanglement can be used in new ways for quantum networks, quantum security, and quantum computing.
