Last Wednesday, we revamped our yearly get-together with the MICAS alumni and friends. An interesting and entertaining speakers’ session, a tasteful walking dinner, and a big crowd of MICAS alumni, collaboration partners and friends; those were the ingredients of a wonderful night, and the start of a new tradition.
After a warm welcome by Prof. Wim Dehaene, the audience got an overview of the activities of MICAS by Prof. Patrick Reynaert. He pointed out that the number of transistors in MICAS IC designs can vary from one single transistor (for example in a 1 THz receiver) to several millions (in the DIANA chip, a neural network processing SoC); a nice illustration of the diversity in research topics at MICAS. Geert De Peuter, CEO of Caeleste, continued with an inspiring speech on the position of our region in the global chip business, after which we all reconnected over a glass and a bite.
The evening lasted well into the night. New relationships were initiated, and old relationships were renewed. That’s what such evening is all about!
